The CBCPV (Comparative Biogeography and Conservation of Philippine Vertebrates) project was established in 2005 with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Philippine Department of Natural Resources and the University of Kansas Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center. It consists of a collaborative working group of academic scientists, lay persons, government personnel, and non-government organization conservationists dedicated to enhanced understanding of the evolution and conservation of Philippine land vertebrate diversity.

Our objective is to document and disseminate knowledge of the Philippine terrestrial vertebrate faunal biodiversity. To that end we have or will soon establish databases summarizing the current state of knowledge of Philippine terrestrial vertebrates, including:
CBCPV is partner to the HerpWatch Philippines project, a consortium of herpetologists, conservation biologists,and university-based researchers with a common interest in conservation of Philippine amphibians and reptile diversity
